The results from the Thoughtexchange process informed Council’s decisions when establishing the NSCP’s Strategic Plan 2016 – 2018. While some of the issues identified through the Thoughtexchange process are complex, this strategic plan sets out the first of the “next steps” that the NSCP will take in working to address these issues.
Governing the practice of pharmacy in Nova Scotia in the interest of the health and wellbeing of the public.
All pharmacy professionals recognize the impact of their roles in the health care system and practice to their full scope.
Goal: Pharmacy professionals have the confidence, motivation, and commitment to provide quality care, without exception.
1. Stimulate registrant engagement
2. Enhance pharmacy professionals’ understanding of the legal requirements of practice
3. Support building professional confidence through collaboration with Dalhousie University and other education providers and stakeholders
Goal: The practice environment enables and supports the safe and effective provision of health care by pharmacy professionals.
1. Initiate continuing dialogue between the NSCP and pharmacy owners on workplace issues
2. Establish minimum workplace requirements for a community pharmacy to provide safe and effective care
3. Update the regulations regarding accountability for the workplace environment
Goal: The public, pharmacy professionals, the government and other stakeholders know and trust the NSCP.
1. Implement a communication plan
2. Make the public and other stakeholders aware of what they should expect from their pharmacist
3. Seek out and establish new relationships as appropriate, including transitioning the new Registrar into existing key relationships
Goal: The quality and efficiency of pharmacy practice standards and NSCP operations are optimized.
1. Establish a Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) process for ongoing monitoring and revision of the practice standards
2. Establish a process for ongoing evaluation and revision of the inspection process that includes a feedback mechanism for audit participants
3. Optimize NSCP operations
