Pharmacists said that even after attending training, they were still unsure about some of the rules, processes and documentation for providing the new services.
A sample of what pharmacists said:
I’m not confident in being able to follow all of [NSCP’s] rules.
The new scope is not the problem, but the processing component is confusing.
Ensure that regulations and standards of practice are clear and concise. Many regulations and standards of practice are written so that there is much interpretation to the documents. And often times the NSCP needs to be called for clarification.
What the NSCP will do:
Direction 1 in the NSCP’s strategic plan is to Inspire Pharmacy Professionals to Provide Quality Care.
The following major initiative under this direction will help address the barrier of understanding regulatory requirements:
1. Enhance pharmacy professionals’ understanding of the legal requirements of practice.
